This park was an excellent hike and a really peaceful experience. The beauty and quiet were exactly what I was hoping for, especially on a winter day. A quick note for hikers - the 1,000 Steps trail is no joke, but it’s very doable if you’re moderately in shape. I started my hike there, took the steps to the top, and then connected to the Rocky Woods Trail. That loop ended up being about six miles total and was absolutely worth it. The Rocky Woods Trail is true to its name - lots of interesting rocky sections mixed with wooded stretches and occasional clearings. I really appreciated the variety; it never felt repetitive and kept the hike engaging the whole way through. It was very cold when I visited and I only saw two other hikers the entire time, which made it feel especially quiet and remote. The Rocky Woods trail runs with broad stretches north to south, so depending on the time of day, parts of the loop will be shaded while others are sunny (depending on which side of the hills you’re on), an important note for the season you’re in. Ending the hike at the bluffs overlooking Big River was the perfect finish. I highly recommend this park if you enjoy scenic, quieter trails with some challenge and variety.

Serene, peaceful. I really enjoyed the trails out there. It was a little muddy, but i was fine with it. I saw an eagle, several deer and lots of birds. I was even accused of being a sasquatch.....but that's a story for another day. I love that they have rv and tent camping, as well as cabins you can rent. Staying a few days is definitely on the list for the next trip.

What a great campground, especially for beginners or those new to camp life! Very spacious lots with designated campfire areas. The bathrooms are super clean and the individual showers are also very clean, have warm water and just overall convenient! The town of DeSoto also makes for fun excursions to the local farmers market for firewood, homemade apple butter, and any type of pumpkin you can imagine! We camped with a large group (about 15-18 people) for 3 days in mid-October and had the best time. Highly recommend this spot!

Beautiful State Park,as are all of Missouri state parks. I came down not long after it flooded in the beginning of April so you get what you get after a good Missouri flood. Didn't get to do any fishing from my kayak, just wade fished and didn't catch a thing. Oh well! I'll visit again later in the summer and try then. Really enjoy seeing a Korean war memorial at the entrance and thought it was the greatest thing to see there, besides nature.

Highly recommended!! There is plenty to do, beautiful overlook, where there are few trails to hike. This also includes a campground ⛺️. There is a small river area which was nice , stayed there for 5 hours and I needed more The park also includes a gift shop. I would differently visit again ISA
