About Lime Kiln Point State Park
This windswept waterfront sanctuary on San Juan Island is the best land-based whale watching spot on the West Coast, with orcas frequently visible from shore. Rocky bluffs and coastal trails provide intimate views of Puget Sound while you search for these magnificent marine mammals.

This state park is proof that we need to keep funding our parks, rangers, and volunteers. On a holiday, this park was teeming with rangers and volunteers hosting an array of events for families on New Years Day. We were welcomed to the top of the lighthouse (!!!!!!) and the volunteers were very knowledgeable of the history of the lighthouse. I highly recommend finding the cove listening area. It is a small stand connected to a hydrophone by the lighthouse that captures the sounds of the ocean. It was created and funded by the family of one of the Sandy Hook victims and it is a beautiful way to honor that child’s memory. We cannot recommend this park enough!

Beautiful and tranquil setting if visiting Friday Harbor. Take the time to head out and see the countryside and when you’ll enjoy the views on the way to this picturesque park. There are nice waterfront trails, adequate parking and the views of the wildlife and water is stunning.

Great place to watch a sunset! Need to buy a discovery pass for $10 so bring cash. There is a self pay station. Locals say this is the best place on the island for whale watching: we only saw a sea lion. Beautiful view is the expanse of the Sound!

Beautiful area with good hiking and a great interpretive center with lovely information and kind staff. There isn’t much parking here, but it rotates out pretty easily. This is a great starting point to bike down to cattle point or take a break from a ride originating at cattle point.

Very cool light house you can go up. There’s lots of rocks to climb on the waterfront. Bring your discover pass.
