I was genuinely excited to visit this shop today, as they carry several obscure brands I already know and love. The space itself is beautiful — thoughtfully curated and minimalist in a way that feels elevated without being cold. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive experience ended. Within moments of walking in, the shop employee (and I sincerely hope it wasn’t the owner) appeared to assess me based on my casual attire and dismissed me entirely. In a region like the greater Seattle area (where casual dress is not only common but the norm) this kind of judgment feels especially out of touch. Retail should be about hospitality and connection, not snap assumptions about who “looks” like a buyer. What makes this particularly disappointing is that they didn’t just lose a browser — they lost a serious customer. I was prepared to purchase four pieces totaling around $1,000 but left empty-handed due to the employee’s behavior. To borrow a line from Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Huge.” On my ferry ride back to Seattle, I ordered the same four items online — each one at least $20-40 less than this store’s listed price. So not only was the customer experience lacking, but the pricing was also noticeably higher than other retailers carrying the exact same pieces. I love supporting local businesses, especially in towns like Port Townsend, Langley, and Friday Harbor. But service matters. Respect matters. I won’t be returning, and I won’t be recommending this shop to the many out-of-town visitors who regularly ask me for recommendations. A beautiful store is only part of the equation. How customers are treated is what truly defines a brand.

Excellent shop of thoughtfully curated ethically sourced clothing. The owner was so kind and explained where each piece I was interested in came from. Great staples for everyday comfort and going out looks.

Absolutely love shopping here. Lovely atmosphere in one of the best coastal towns. Olivia is wonderful and curates so well. Clothing is well worth it.

Beautiful boutique in every way. Olivia, the shop owner, provides the most lovely experience for each guest. She is warm and authentic, joyful and welcoming. I regularly travel from Olympia as it is simply worth the trip. Port Townsend and all of us who visit are fortunate to be friends of Commoner.
