Thornewood Castle is one of the most scenic wedding venues in Washington. From the historic architecture to the English gardens and lakeside views, every corner feels layered with character and romance. It’s the kind of place that instantly elevates a wedding day without needing much added decor. As a wedding photographer, I especially love how dynamic the setting is throughout the day. The soft garden light in the afternoon, candlelit interiors, and the dramatic textures of the castle itself create an incredible range of moments to work with. It’s a venue that photographs beautifully in every season and lends itself naturally to timeless, editorial imagery. Beyond the aesthetics, the team at Thornewood is thoughtful, organized, and deeply experienced in hosting weddings. The day flowed so easily, and you could tell there was a high level of intentionality thought through every detail so the couple and their guests could truly enjoy their celebration. I photographed a Lord of the Rings themed wedding here in December, and it was so awesome! As a photographer, Thornewood Castle was on my bucket list to photograph a wedding at. It was even better than I imagined! From the minute I drove up, I was absolutely amazed. It really is as grand in person as it is in photos; if not more. The manager was on stand-by to answer questions as people set up and was really friendly! It turned out to be such an amazing day. I'd definitely recommend it, *especially* if you want to have a Lord of the Rings themed wedding!

As a wedding planner, the aesthetics of Thornewood Castle are nothing short of a dream. The venue is stunning from the inside out, and there truly isn’t a single bad place for photos. I photographed a wedding at Thornewood Castle in September, and it truly felt magical from start to finish. From the moment you arrive, the property feels like something out of a storybook. Inside, the grand staircase and open entry create such an elegant first impression, with plenty of beautiful rooms for getting ready and spending time together. The main space is warm and inviting, complete with a stunning fireplace, and the kitchen setup makes catering seamless. Outside, the gardens are incredibly well cared for, lush florals, manicured lawns, and a fountain garden that feels almost European. The lake behind the property is the perfect backdrop at sunset and makes golden hour photos absolutely unreal. Thornewood Castle is a dream venue, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone considering it for their wedding day.

Beautiful castle! We had our wedding here as many do and it was so beautiful! If you get married here I recommend staying the night the day before and the day of your wedding, it will give you more access to the castle and if you stay in the Grand View suite you get that big balcony you see in the pictures! We loved staying here and getting married here!
