This a unique, historic building. McMenamins has done well in preserving the building and refreshing it with their style. I especially enjoy the hotel rooms, the Pub, the Old Hangout, and the Spanish Bar. The downside: over a few stays I have experienced unfriendliness and even rudeness from some staff. Hopefully an appreciation of guests can grow here.

Located in the historic district, this is a charming hotel with beautifully appointed themed rooms and customized art, including framed historical narratives. The service was warm and attentive at the front desk and in the restaurants and gift shop. We will absolutely return to vacation here.

Super unique and eclectic hotel from the lobby to the restaurants and rooms. We stayed just one night on our way through town so didn't get to experience all they have to offer but what we did experience was great! The room was very clean, not a speck of dust anywhere, the bed was comfy and the space was nicely decorated. The front desk check in was quick and simple and the gal checking us in was very friendly. All the basic expectations were met, some exceeded, so when you add the 5 bars to the list of amenities you definitely have a 5 star experience! We were on the noisy road side of the hotel so the morning rush hour was a good alarm clock to get up and get ready for the day! Next time we'll request a room on the other side, we won't get the stunning view but might be able to sleep in a bit!

We went to McMenamin's Elks Temple. This is a huge, very well thought out re-imagining of a century old building. Started out as the Tacoma Elks Club and after several iterations became a McMenamin's property. Multiple uses hotel. With standout hotel rooms and suites in a very attractive setting. Several restaurants with a variety of menus and decorative styles. There's a beautiful atrium; It reminds me of a greenhouse and quite a few different types of chandeliers lighting up that whole space. There's the Ballroom, shown to groups at special times : amazing and historic. A bottle shop, a small gift shop... more. We were especially pleased by the staff. Each person we encountered was knowledgeable about the property, helpful, and seemed to enjoy being a part of something unique and special. It's a great choice for any occasion, loved it and will return. So much to see and do! There's a brewery in the basement. Views of Puget Sound and the Foss tugs and Waterway.I could go on and on... sounding like a commercial so I'll stop...

Outstanding restaurant! Drinks and food are outstanding. The only major issue I have is related to parking. It's can be very very difficult. But overall the evening was awesome they did great and we had a group with 30!
