Reviews
Elegant, cozy venue with commercial kitchen and multiple lovely entrances and photo backgrounds indoors and out. Perfect for a small wedding, this venue is owned by the City of Bozeman and managed by a volunteer group called Friends of Story Mansion. That means that your very reasonable fee goes toward the maintenance of this historic site. Renting for the day, you have the entire site from 9-9 for a leisurely set up and take down. The only caveat is that since the site is managed by a volunteer group, communication is not very quick.

Cool old frat house with a richer history beyond that. Great community space.

There’s something magical about the Story Mansion. The first time I walked past it, I stopped mid-step. It looked like a page from a fairy tale tucked right into the middle of Bozeman. Grand, a little mysterious, and wrapped in a sense of history you can feel even before you reach the front steps. The architecture is stunning, with details that make you want to lean in closer, like the house itself is whispering secrets from the past. The mansion sits beside a lovely park that feels just as timeless. It’s the kind of place where you could spread out a blanket with a good book, listen to the wind rustle through the trees, and lose track of time entirely. Families gather here, dogs chase after frisbees, and people pass through with coffee cups and quiet smiles. There’s a peace to it that’s hard to explain but easy to feel. One Sunday afternoon, I wandered into an open house tour. A kind volunteer greeted me with a smile and invited me in. Inside, it was like stepping into another era. The woodwork, the stained glass, the way light streamed through the windows—it all felt sacred somehow, like the home had been waiting to be seen and remembered. Each room held a different story. Some were told aloud, others hung in the air like perfume from long ago. Since then, I’ve gone back often. Sometimes just for a walk in the park, sometimes to sit under the trees and let the world slow down. It’s become one of my favorite places in Bozeman—a quiet, elegant escape where the past and present meet without rushing. If you’re visiting Bozeman or even if you’ve lived here your whole life, go to the Story Mansion. Stand on the porch. Walk the gardens. Listen. There’s a little wonder waiting there for anyone willing to notice.
