Chihuly Bridge of Glass

I really enjoyed visiting the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. The artwork is stunning, especially with the natural light shining through the vibrant glass pieces. It’s a beautiful and unique place to walk, relax, and take photos. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Tacoma!

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass spans from the Tacoma Glass Museum to the University of Washington Tacoma campus. The bridge is a free taste of the forms and colors that make glass a luminous art form and Chihuly glass a sensory delight. I suggest searching for parking near the bridge, rather than the bridge as a destination to avoid frustration. The views and central Tacoma access make this a lovely stop on any Tacoma visit.

A lovely combination of form and function. On a practical level, it connects the waterfront to the street, allowing everyone to easily pass from the shopping areas to the promenade and the Museum of Glass. It is very easy to take this bridge from the light rail, which is one component of why I found this city very cohesive and easy to navigate (I didn't need to look at a map once). But it is also absolutely a gorgeous bridge, adorned with elaborate Chihuly artwork for public display. The wild, swirling glass work evokes the colors and primal vitality of the sea, very appropriate for the Pacific Northwest. I imagine on a clear day, when the sun is shining brightly on the glass, it looks absolutely dream-like, but even on a cloudy day, the colors looked so comforting and elegant.

Everyone who comes through the town should walk this bridge. It is an absolutely phenomenal display of Chihuly's work, a great view of Downtown Tacoma, and a really fun place to snap some pics.

Worth crossing this bridge to get to the Museums. Such a cool idea. Bet it looks really lovely when it's sunny!
